AUTHOR POV:
The morning sun gently streamed into the small room, rousing a girl from her restless sleep. With a sigh, she thought, "Just another day of living hell." Yet, resigned to her fate, she rose from the worn-out bed and went about her morning routine.
First, she took care of her personal needs and then started on the household chores before the rest of the household woke up. She prepared breakfast for everyone and made Preeti's morning green tea, ensuring everything was just right.
Afterward, she found solace in her prayers before her beloved Kanhaji, performing her aarti with devotion. Then, she began preparing herself for university. She was fortunate to be studying at a prestigious university, having earned a full scholarship due to her outstanding academic achievements. Despite her brilliance, she remained introverted, shy, and innocent.
Her ultimate goal now was simple yet profound: to escape this oppressive environment as soon as possible.
AKSHU POV:
Helloji, I am Akshara, you must be wondering why I don't have any surname. It's because I don't have anyone to call a family. I'm an orphan, I don't know who my parents are. Chacha-Chachi bitter chuckle brought me in their home; so that I can be any use of them and repay their favor of saving me from orphanage.
"I can't even Explain how I'm feeling anymore, my thoughts are having conflict in my head that I am unable to stop them. " Anyways this is my life and even I can't do anything. I have only two peoples in my life first my Sakha, my kanhaji🥹 and Shyra, my best friend who's more like a sister. Shyra has been my rock since our days in the orphanage. Okay so my life introduction is done.
Today, I'm excited because our university is hosting an inter-college dance event. Dancing is my hobby , and they have been my companions through the tough times.
I won't wear my dance costume at home because last time my aunt accused me of stealing her daughter's dress, which was actually a gift from Shyra on my last birthday. I've decided to wear it either at Shyra's house or at the university.
As I was reaching for the door to open it, I heard Chachaji shouting my name, fear engulfed me. Now I was shaking, and sweats beads were forming on my forehead. Again, I heard him "Akshara, bitch where are you going without asking permission" Tears welled up in my eyes but I gathered some voice and spoke turning around, "Sorry, chachaji I for....forgott to ask. Can I go chachaji to university, please", I stuttered feeling ashamed of my weakness.
Still, I waited for his answer, but I got no response. Suddenly, a harsh slap landed on my left cheek, which made me stumble back and I fell on the ground. The stinging burning sensation of the slap was still there. I gathered some courage to look up, only to hear him, his tone venomous," If I ever get to know that you are whoring around in the university, then I will skin you alive. UNDERSTAND", he spat.
I nodded my head furiously, knowing the consequences of my disobedience. I remembered the day when I arrived home late because Shyra and I were busy celebrating her birthday. And that day chachaji, punished me by hitting me with his leather belt. My trail of thoughts broke, when I felt a hard push on my shoulder and then I saw him moving towards the kitchen.
[Harami chacha🤬]
Now, I didn't feel like going to university, but Shyra really wanted to see my dance performance, and she asked me so sweetly. So, wiping away my tears, I went outside and walked to Shyra's house. She lives in a nearby colony.
I knocked on the door of her house, and after a few attempts, she was about to leap at me, but upon seeing my face, she embraced me, and I broke down in tears in her arms. She led me inside. "Why, Shyra? What have I done to deserve being left alone in this harsh world by my parents? I've never wronged anyone, yet I bear all this suffering. I should die, Shyra," I panicked. "Please, Shyra, let me die," as my breathing quickened. "Please, angel, don't talk like that. You're all I have. For my sake, don't think like that. Please, calm down," Shyra implored, tears streaming down her face. Eventually, my breathing steadied, and Shyra handed me a glass of water and inquired about the reason for my tears.
I poured out my heart to her. She rose in anger, but I grasped her hand, pleading with her to refrain from acting. "Akshu, for heaven's sake, stop defending them. They're cruel. I need to protect you; please don't hold me back, angel," Shyra insisted. "I understand," I replied with a sorrowful smile. "Oh, I almost forgot; we have to head to my university. There's only an hour left before the event. Let's get ready, my bubbly," I said, playfully pinching her cheeks. She rolled her eyes at my feigned enthusiasm.
After an hour, we finally arrived at my university. I registered with my pass, and Shyra settled into her seat beside me. The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. Suddenly, chaos erupted in the hall—students were running around. Our principal's voice boomed over the commotion, announcing the arrival of today's Chief Guest.
All eyes turned towards the main entrance as a tall, imposing figure entered. He was dressed in a sleek black Armani suit, exuding a dark aura that made me feel uneasy. His hazel brown eyes were cold and emotionless, framed by a beard that added to his intimidating presence. "Why am I thinking like that? Stop ogling him like a creep, Akshu, stop!" I scolded myself silently.
The hall erupted in excitement as our principal honored him with a token of appreciation. The man, Veeranshu Singhaniya, CEO of Singhaniya Empires, took the stage and began speaking. His voice was deep and husky, commanding the attention of everyone present. "Good afternoon, students. As you already know my name..." The crowd cheered and shouted in response to his introduction. "I am Veeranshu Singhaniya, and this university was founded by my late grandfather. All the best for today's event," he concluded, gracefully descending the stairs to his seat in the front row.
My heart raced with nervousness as I realized my performance was next. The preceding girl's performance ended, and as the lights dimmed, I made my way up the stairs to the stage. My hands trembled slightly as I prepared to dance, the mix of excitement and anxiety palpable. The spotlight focused on me, and I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves before I began my dance routine.
A/N: You can imagine Akshu dancing like this wearing a white Anarkali.
As I danced with joy, I felt a persistent, intense gaze upon me. When I glanced up, I saw Mr. Singhaniya watching me with an unwavering intensity. There was something in his eyes, a depth I couldn't quite decipher. Feeling unnerved, I quickly looked away and focused on continuing my performance.
As my dance came to an end, I couldn't resist looking in his direction again, only to find his gaze still fixed on me. A shiver ran down my spine, and I hurriedly fled to the changing room to switch into an orange suit. I returned to sit beside Shyra, who complimented me, making me blush with gratitude.
As more performances followed, the event eventually came to a close. The principal congratulated everyone for their enthusiasm, and anticipation filled the air as the winner was about to be announced. Shyra was praying fervently for my victory, and I felt overwhelmed by her support and love.
Lost in my thoughts, I was jolted back to reality by Shyra's joyful exclamation. My name was called out, and I couldn't believe it. Still in a daze, I made my way to the stage. Suddenly, the principal announced that Mr. Singhaniya would present the award. Fear gripped me, and I couldn't bring myself to look up at him.
Mr. Singhaniya handed me the trophy and certificate, and then he leaned in close, speaking words that were meant only for me to hear. His proximity and the intensity of his gaze sent a wave of apprehension through me. I felt a mixture of fear and intrigue, unsure of what to make of his words or his presence.
Throughout my performance, the feeling of his eyes on me had been both unsettling and strangely captivating. Now, as he stood before me, his words lingering in the air, I couldn't shake the unsettling feeling that there was more to Mr. Singhaniya's interest in me than met the eye.
"Congratulations, little birdie. We will meet soon. Till then, take care of yourself. Hmm." His words echoed in my mind, freezing me in place. Summoning courage, I looked up to meet his gaze, but regretted it immediately. He was glaring at me, perhaps because I hadn't responded. It felt rude, so with a small, fearful smile, I managed to stammer, "Th-thank you, Sir. I will take care." I hurried away, feeling his devilish smirk linger behind me. I knew then that I needed to stay away from him; he wasn't good for me.
Shyra ran up to me and hugged me tightly, overwhelmed with pride, happiness, and contentment for my win. "Bubbly, let go, I'm suffocating," I managed to say, struggling to breathe. She released me, her eyes reflecting the deep bond and support she offered me. Truly, she was a gift from above.
Later, at the ice-cream shop, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Each time I glanced around, however, no one was there. I shrugged off the unsettling thoughts as we parted ways for our respective homes. The thought of returning to that oppressive home saddened me deeply. Hurrying inside, I found the house empty—perhaps they were out at a party or visiting someone. Thankfully alone, I reheated some leftover food from the kitchen and ate quietly.
As I settled into bed, thoughts of that intimidating man plagued my mind. Why couldn't I shake him off? Only the comfort of Kanhaji's plan for the next day eased me into sleep.
